Tickets / Citations

Q:  How do I satisfy a citation?

A:
You have three options in order to satisfy a citation.  You may attend a driver improvement program for dismissal, you may pay the fine, or you may appear before the Judge for a hearing.

Citations given for light law violations can be dismissed upon proof that the light has been repaired (simply bring your vehicle to the police department for inspection by an officer).

Should you receive a citation for "No Driver's License", the citation can be dismissed by presenting a valid driver's license at the department prior to your court date.

Q:  How do I attend the driver improvement program?

A:
The driver improvement program is available to those who possess a valid driver's license, and who have not attended the class in the past.  To register for class, you must pay the fine at the cashiers office and sign up in person at the Morristown Police Department prior to your court date.

In addition to the fine, the cost of attending class is $35.00; however, once you have completed the class your citation will be dismissed.

Q:  How much money will a citation cost me?

A:
Here is a list of fines, not including court costs:

    Failure to Yield                                    $65.00
    Following Too Closely                         $65.00
    Improper Parking (Handicapped)         $65.00
    Improper Parking (All Other)               $25.00

    Trespassing                                          $24.75

All fines must be received at the cashier's officer before 3 p.m. on your court date to avoid paying court costs of $13.75.  Although parking tickets (other than handicapped parking) are $25.00, the fine increases $1.50 for each day past your court date to a maximum of $40.00.
