John Q. McMillian
(in a nutshell)

I grew up in a little town nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, called Maryville, which is in East Tennessee. I guess its safe to say I spent my childhood doing what most kids do;...... and trying not to get caught at it. I guess for the most part I was successful.

After high school came college, and then seven years in the Air Force. I learned a lot about people in general and me specifically during those years. No doubt about; join the Air Force and see the world, or at least half of it. I never went to Europe or even to any of the northern states (boy would this good ole southern boy have felt out of place up north.....no offense). I traveled throughout the south: Blytheville AFB, AR; Shepherd AFB, TX; Anderson AFB, Guam (okay, so one time I went a bit too far west); Reece AFB, TX; Vandenberg AFB, CA; and finally Little Rock AFB, AR. My jobs ranged from Transportation Officer to Missile Combat Crew Commander for the Titan II ICBM system. How's that for job diversification?

During the last twelve or so years I've spent my time teaching (at least part of the time) and being a self-employed speaker, trainer, and consultant. For more details about how I've kept busy for the past few years, you can check out my entertainment booking agency. When I tell people I'm at the "home office," I'm really in the home office. In my spare time I work on Pinecrest........with a lot of help and support from my friends and family.

I don't have much in the way of immediate family. I do have a daughter, 22 (oooooh boy!) who lives with her mother in Arkansas.

Hard to say 'bout my hobbies. I enjoy outdoor activities like boating and SCUBA diving. Haven't had much time for either one lately. Mostly, I spend my "leisure time" trying to keep this place up......it could be a full time job!

I try to keep my views of life and living simple. I believe that life is an adventure and that we should take big bites out of it instead of just nibbling at the edges. I think that a person should be good at a lot of things........specialization is for insects. I also think that too many beliefs get in the way of learning. Finally, I try to live by four basic rules:

Rule #1: Don't sweat the small stuff.

Rule #2: It's all small stuff.

Rule #3: No regrets, ever. We can't change the past.....so don't fret over it. The future is a blank sheet. We can create our future, but our future comes from the lessons (learned or ignored) of the past.

Rule #4: Always set goals. Never, never, never give up on the goals in which you truly believe. This is what gives direction and meaning to our lives. When our dreams and goals die; we die.

A few years ago, I tried my hand at writing. I had been out of the Air Force for a few years, the earth sheltered home was about as nearly finished as it is today, the hydroelectric system was running, and I was busy teaching full time. I don’t really know what came over me, all of a sudden I was possessed by the need to express myself. I had not written (fiction) before; nor have I written any since (and if you read this you’ll know why). Anyway, web pages are for the expression of ideas, attitudes, and beliefs, so here goes. If you care to read POSSIBILITIES.....a future history I hope you at least find it interesting and thought provoking.....if not a literary masterpiece!

Well, I guess that's 'bout all I've got to say for now. I always like to make new friends so send me some e-mail and we'll get together and chat.
