Judge John B. Holloway was born at White Pine, Tennessee, on December 26, 1853. As a boy he travelled to Morristown and studied law.
Holloway served as state attorney general of the 2nd Judicial District, and later as judge in the 2nd district. He ran for mayor of Morristown on a prohibition ticket and was the first man elected on a "dry" ticket for mayor of town. He was re-elected two times. (This is what I have read, and I am not altogether sure about the dates since I have not yet gone to the original sources on this.) But anyway, he seems to have been elected mayor in 1885, 1886 and 1887.
Holloway never married. He lived with a widowed sister and provided for her and her children for the rest of her life. He had another sister, Mrs. W. H. Maze, whose husband I believe was at one time a sheriff of Hamblen County.
Holloway died in Morristown August 19, 1921 at the home of his sister, Mrs. Maze, after returning from a long stay at John Hopkins Hospital. He was a Presbyterian, and he was buried at Jarnigan Cemetery.
